Author’s Note, Part 2: As promised in my Koch Cabal article, I am devoting my first article in this series to Ty Masterson, the current leader of KSLEG. Readers from across the state are also welcome to provide their own articles -anonymous or not-with the sole purpose of educating their neighbors, friends, and loved ones about their elected officials. If you have any information regarding any of the candidates that you believe I should have, please email me at ginnykrumme@gmail.com.
Ty Masterson, Chapter 1
A quick history lesson shows me that Ty Masterson attended Kansas State University but did not finish a degree. Before he was a state rep and now state senator, he worked as a realtor and small business owner. According to his campaign page, Ty has six children and five grandchildren. He’s also proudly been endorsed by former Governor Brownback and current Attorney General Kris Kobach.
The quick biography was lacking in substance so I dug a little bit deeper.
Googling Ty Masterson is very eye opening.
And it got me thinking.
Masterson. What a fitting last name for our current KSLEG Senate President.
Son of a Master.
But who is his master? Is it his voters in Senate District 16? Or someone else?
Who is Ty?
Ty filed for bankruptcy in 2010. It was nearly $885,000 in unsecured debts. $885,000.
Ty's current job is listed as the Director of GoCreate, a Koch collaborative at Wichita State University. I went directly to their website, GoCreate, to see what exactly he does, but weirdly enough, I could not find his name on their website. Not one time.
Ty is the 2024 ALEC National Chair. ALEC, which stands for American Legislative Exchange Council, is largely funded by the Koch family and Industries.
Ty shares AFP posts on X. AFP, which stands for Americans for Prosperity, is largely funded by -you guessed it- the Koch family and Industries.
Ty Masterson, Chapter 2 will tackle such topics as taking people off of committees, holding important bills hostage, and refusing to advance topics that Kansans have repeatedly said are important to them.
It’s no surprise to me that Ty Masterson has blatantly ignored and defied the voters’ wishes.
At this point, I think a more fitting last name for him would be Kochson.
